New Akzo Nobel Chemicals Strategy

On February 4th, 2005 Akzo Nobel announced the new Chemicals strategy "Chemicals preparing for future growth". Akzo Nobel conducted an in-depth review of all the Chemicals businesses. This review indicated that certain businesses will be strengthened to retain existing leadership positions and to concentrate on expanding core activities in the selected market segments. Several other businesses - that do not meet the criteria - will be divested and managed through a separate organization. This Chemicals’ strategy review implied - with reservation - the merge of CT Salt Europe and Road Salt with the Akzo Nobel business units Energy and Base Chemicals into one new Business Unit: Base Chemicals. Furthermore the review meant also the divestment of Salt Specialties including several locations and the divestment of the joint venture Salt Asia Holding (Solar Salt Australia). Salt Asia Holding will be managed by the Divestment Unit as of April 1st.
